Quicktime says I am missing some files to play avi files. What are they and how can I get them?

Might be DivX, in which case the DivX and 3ivx codecs will do (you can install both, DivX comes with a special AVI parser so MP3 audio plays correctly).

Could be Indeo Video, in which case you'll need to play it in Classic Quicktime.

You can also try VLC, which plays a lot of different formats.

For more specific info about what you need to do, get info on the movie while it's open in QT (Cmd-I) and tell us what it says under 'Format'.

MPlayer is also very good.

Right, I was joking at that fact, hence the 'cool' word in my sentence

Cellulo is just QuickTime. It will choke or not choke on exactly the same files as QuickTime Player.
