The first thing I noticed when Safari 1.3 was released was that the keyboard shortcut to go to the next/previous tab would not work when any textbox was active (eg url, google bar, or objects on a web page.)
This is the single most frustrating bug I have seen in years. I cannot believe it is a feature?
Am I missing something? And HOW do I turn it off/get rid of this behaviour?
The shortcut I am using is shift, apple and left/right arrow.

MOS, he says in his post that he is using the arrow keys, which would explain why it's not working. But are you saying that the curly-bracket shortcuts aren't working for you? Because the arrows don't work for me, but the brackets do.

Oh, gotcha...my bad! The brackets do indeed work for me, just not the arrows.

I wondered about that too, and I like this new arrangement, but it would have taken me awhile to figure out the new combo. Apple should make such changes more obvious.

It's in the Window menu, so it's not like they're keeping it a secret. It just screws with your motor memory. I'm curious why they changed so many shortcuts in 1.3, though. Did the old tab-switching and source-viewing shortcuts conflict with something?

Ooh! Glad I read this, that was driving my insane. I had keys on my Logitech keyboard set to cmd-shift-left and right, which still worked except for the text box thing. Changed to { } and all's spiffy.
Dave Hyatt noted in his blog that the View Source shortcut was changed to match Text Edit or something. I don't kno why they changed the Tab shortcuts, maybe for something in Safari 2.0 with RSS stuff...

Thanks all for your comments. I do feel a little better now I know its not a bug, and I have spotted the shortcut in the Windows menu so Apple haven't hidden it.
I am suprised however that the left and right arrow still partially work - I wonder what Apple is up to?
For anyone knew to the Mac (and something I hadnt thought of even though i've been using 10.3 for years): setup your own shortcuts...
in the Keyboard and Mouse System Preference, Keyboard Shortcuts tab you can create your own keyboard shortcut for Safari. By adding the items 'Select Next Tab' and 'Select Previous Tab' with the old shortcuts (Apple Shift Left etc.) it all goes back to normal. No conflicts here so even more confused...
