Hello.
I'm going to purchase a Digital ID from VeriSign (I know it's free on Thawte), and I was wondering if there is a good (read: easy) way to backup my certificates using Keychain? I have .Mac and use Backup.app, and I notice there is an option to backup the Keychain. Will this work and backup all of my Digital IDs?
I ask because with the release of Tiger, I want to make sure I can use my Digital IDs after a clean install. Is it as simple as using Backup.app? If so, that would be great.
Any information is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it really is that simple. :-)
Just out of curiosity, why are you buying on from VeriSign, when it is free from Thawte? And for those who might not know, Thawte is a subsidiary of VeriSign.

Thanks for the information. Actually, after I posted this, I went ahead and got a Digital ID from Thawte and tested it out using Backup.app. You're right -- it's incredibly easy to back up these certificates if you have .Mac. However, if you don't have .Mac (access to Backup.app), it's not possible (AFAIK) to backup your certificates. Apple needs to make exporting certificates from the Keychain easier. From what I understand, this problem has not been fixed in Tiger.
I'll end up keeping the Thawte Digital ID. I wish I could list my name in the certificate -- you have to go through the "Web of Trust" in order to accomplish this with Thawte. (You may have to do this with VeriSign as well -- I don't know for sure.)
Thanks again.

Yes, exporting the key from the Keychain does not seem to be possible. But you can back up the entire Keychain without using Backup and .mac. If you are using another backup application have it backup ~/Library/Keychains/ This will get everything.
And finally we will get a searchable Keychain in Tiger. Yay!
