When trying to access https sites with Safari 2.0 I get the following error:

Safari can’t open the page “[page address here]” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “[server address here]”.

Anyone know what's up with that?

Although some Tiger orders have shipped, I don't believe people will start seeing them on their doorsteps till early next week; I also don't think MacNN is allowing Tiger troubleshooting posts yet.

Dear Pirate:

Do not download illegal builds of Tiger off the IntarWeb®, or you will face consequences*.

I think it's funny how a few copies of Tiger shipped pre-maturely, and now everyone is using this an excuse to get support for their pirated Tiger installations.

Well, if anyone wants to know, I fixed it by reinstalling. I don't know if it was a dirty disc, or the fact that I tried to install it off a firewire DVD drive... but I put it in the internal drive and reinstalled everything and now it's fine. Guess it was just one of those things...

I have just upgraded to 10.4 and all is OK apart from major problems accessing our main on-line accounting site. When you enter the URL that contains the https://(site) the response is:-

Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “my URL” because the network connection was reset, which sometimes occurs when the server is busy. You might be able to open the page later.

I tried changing the User Agent to Windows MSIE 6.0 but no joy. It works great in Omniweb 5.1 and even the old Mac IE 5.2.

The only work around was to copy the Safari 1.3 app from my cloned back-up and use it, which works perfectly. BUT its a little SAD that a major OS update like this should force us to use older software to be compliant.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

All I can add is "Me too". Safari won't connect to any https page. ARGH. Other browsers work fine, and in my spare "virgin" user account Safari again fails to connect to any https page.

There are scattered reports of this around the net, but nothing definitive on cause or solution.

I did and archive and install installation of Tiger. Safari was fine with https prior to that.

Open your keychain access utility and replace your X509 anchors and certificates...that's what they're called on my Keychain listing....with the proper certificates of authenticity...I had to copy, save and paste them from another computer that still had them.

Once I did that....voila'....everything now works....it took me the better part of a day to figure this one out and I doubt that I could do it again....but when something really drives you nuts, you try to never give up.....good luck!
