iSync simply not working

Running 10.2.8 (for another 4 days!) and iSync comes up when I start up or plug in my iPod, but then it doesn't attempt to sync. Pressing the 'sync now' button makes it go round and round for a bit, and the status bar comes up, but then it goes back to neutral again. Any ideas?
