Of all the sites, why in the world is apple.com lagging for whole seconds in Safari (1.3) after clicking on a link? This is happening on both my iBook and my DP 2.0, so I am certain that this is not some local abnormality. And this is not happening in Firefox. I do not yet know whether or not this happens under Safari 2, but I have to assume it does since 1.3's engine is essentially the same.

I've noticed that too, and it slows all of Safari down when apple.com is opened.

Yeah, it freezes Safari cold, although everything else is responsive. It's highly ironic - not even Microsoft does anything like this!

Gamespy.com and its associated pages take much longer than Apple's site to load for me. I only have Javascript and Plugins on. On a G5 / 1.8 with Safari 1.3 and all the other latest updates.
Genius. You know who.

We're not discussing page load times, nforcer. The issue we're talking about is the lag that freezes Safari for seconds after a link on Apple's site is clicked.

true, it always makes me think about Netscape which built in certain kind of spyware years ago. Don't think Apple is doing that, but it does lag for unknown reason indeed.

How does it freeze? I don't get any lag loading up apple.com or clicking on a link to another apple.com page. It shows its loading the page and a second later I've got the new page up.

I'm on 10.3.9/1.3 PB 1.33

Apple's links temporarily freeze Safari so that there is no visual change in the application at all. Right now on my iBook I am seeing an estimated four second freeze between clicking and seeing any update. I am pretty sure it has something to do with Safari 1.3 since I did not notice this behavior before.

I'm not seeing this lag. Maybe you've got something installed that I don't.

I was seeing this lag with all sites - I compressed SIMBL (thus disabling it) and everything became much better again.

Alas, of course, PithHelmet no longer works - so Ads a plenty.

I click and Safari doesn't display the page immediately, then a second later it switches to a competely rendered/almost completely rendered page. Safari doesn't freeze though, I can still click other elements, menus etc.

Safari can be a bit of a bad boy at hogging RAM (I've noticed this is much better under 1.3 though), if you haven't already, try emptying the cache, quitting and restarting Safari.

I found Safari was slow to lauch when I first updated - I trashed ~user/Library/Safari/Icons - just the "Icons" folder and this improved its performance no end. Its just the bookmark icons in there - some other people have said they change permissions on the folder so Safari can't put stuff in there.

Dunno if the above is anything to do with your situation tho'.

Yes, the site I listed also freezes Safari for seconds after a link is clicked.

Interesting. I wonder if we're seeing the same issue, because I do not have that problem with Gamespy.

I have noted that mac.com links do not produce the same freeze as the ones found on apple.com. Pricegrabber.com's links freeze in a similar manner to Apple's.
