Holy freaking crap I'm glad there's not a window in my office or I would have thrown my system out it already. I give up. I can't fight it any longer.

Mail and Exchange have joined forces and totally kicked my butt.

Entourage? No problem! I have it working PERFECTLY -- but 10.4 Mail refuses to see our server no matter what I enter. Can someone puh-LEEEEEZE help me get this working?!?! Here's my info as it's entered into Entourage (which works, remember):

Exchange Server Address: https://10.0.0.1/exchange/
LDAP Server: https://10.0.0.1/exchange/
DAV requires secure connection is checked.

In Mail, I see no place to enter the domain, either, and ours ends in .local rather than .com/net/whatever. Further, the SSL setting in Mail seems to not be the same as the DAV setting in Entourage.

Again, no matter what I enter into Mail, it just flat-out refuses to see the Exchange server. Has ANYONE gotten this to work?

TIA,
Maury

I've never even tried to get Mail (any version) to integrate with Exchange; however, does Mail use the OWA link, like Entourage, to communicate with Exchange? Just wondering.

That looks pretty strange... The exchange server is really on the gateway? I.e. 10.0.0.1? Or are you just using a fake IP address?

Also, I don't see how an LDAP server or DAV server would actually be https: anything... Something is strange here. If you want mail to access Exchange, you should be creating an IMAP account, not using HTTPs. That is DAV, which is suitable for web access (OWA), not for IMAP access.

Maury,

I don't know if this will help or not especially since I don't know if you are trying to access an Exchange server that you control or one at work. Having said that, Mail.app used to work fine for me at my job until one day the IT gods decided to turn off IMAP access. At that point I was forced to use Entourage which could communicate over the DAV protocol. Hope this helps.

Has this been solved yet? I am having the same problem. Exchange works with Enourage, not Mail. The only difference I can see is the Domain field. There is no domain field box in Mail.app, unlike Entourage. I tried entering domain\user in the user field, but that doesn't work. Please Apple, why is there no domain field?

The domain field is behind the server settings button.

10.4 Mail.app works fine with our Exchange server. You have to have OWA on the Exchange server and use the OWA address when setting up Mail.app. I'll edit this in a little bit with my exact settings when I get back to my laptop.

Now that I'm back at my laptop, here is how my Mail.app is configured.

When I created the account, I selected I wanted to setup an Exchange account.

For incoming server, put in the address of your OWA (i.e. mail.mydomain.com).

For an outgoing server, put in an your SMTP server.

Then there will be a box that says Outlook Web Access Server. Put in the address for OWA there also.

That's it.

Funny thing is, I can get Mail.app to work just fine, but I can't get Entourage to work at all with our configuration.

I finally reinstalled Microsoft Office after getting my laptop back from Apple a couple of weeks ago. I ran all the updates for Office and tried again to get Entourage to work with our Exchange at work.

And to my suprise, it actually works now. As much as I like Mail.app, we are in the process of phasing out POP and SMTP on our Exchange server and Mail.app still requires an SMTP server to send mail. The latest service pack to Office, however, allows Entourage to do everything through OWA, which is great for the direction we are headed in our organization.

Even though it's not MAPI, it's about time the Mac group at Microsoft provided us a working connection to Exchange since Outlook 2001 was never brought over to Mac OS X.
