Hi,
I went ahead and downloaded Divx5.2.1 from MacUpdate a little earlier today. I used the standard Stuffit Expander to extract the file but when the .sit file was extracted it showed 0(zero) items in the extracted folder. I have this happen to another .sit archive aswell. What can I do or try next ?
I'm using Tiger(10.4) as my main OS - the official release.
Edit: I just found that I have quite alot of files that wont extract - all .sit files. disturbing. But I also have some that will extract okay. Also .sit files.

I have ran into this my self, I think it's a bug in Stuffit and there will need to be a patch released to fix it.
A work around that I have found is.
Open the stuffit expander app by it's self and then go to file in the menu bar and selct open.
This is the only way that I can get it to work on files that expand to an empty dir.

Thanks akuma-x.
That worked like a charm. Even though DivX didn't work it was worth a try.

DivX worked for me when I opened it through stuffit expander. A divx file appears minus an icon (just a white sheet is seen). If you click on that then it should open up the install window for divx and then it proceeds normally from there

I could not get DivX playback to work. I opened the installer and it installed onto my hd but when trying to playback files I get a white window in Quicktime.
edit: It seems that all I had to to was restart my Mac. Now everything is dandy. except for Stuffit.

I still have issues with the latest Stuffit Standard 9.0.2 and extracting .sit files ... can somebody give me some pointers as to what to try ? I sometimes get 0 items in the extracted folders when I download icons from Interfacelift for instance.
And I can sometimes extract archives but not with their full content. only some files are extracted.

This may or may not be related, but I just got a new iMac today, and since installing Stuffit Expander I can no longer run mpkg installers. They simply open as the folders that they actually are; obviously a big deal. What do I do?

Ugh! I just did an Archive & Install of Tiger... downloaded Expander 9.0.1... and many of the sit files I'm downloading (mostly icons) are having this problem, extracting with 0 items. I tried openning Expander and saying Expand from the File menu... which resulted in exactly ONE file in the extracted folder, but not any of the rest.

I have an important note to add. I found a workaround to this issue, let's see if it's the same for everyone else.
Using the ls command in the Terminal to see the contents of the extracted folders, which supposedly contained no items, the items were actually there! Using Spotlight, I was able to search for the names of the files/folders, and it found them!
Code:
Wizard:~ elismith$ ls /Users/elismith/Desktop/PP\ -\ Pixel\ Feng\ Shui/
About 'Pixel Feng Shui' The Icons
It showed the contents I knew should be there, the read me and the icons folder. I then searched for "The Icons" in Spotlight, and it saw the folder and I could open it.
This is a serious issue though... there really needs be be a fix.

I have this issue with Stuffit as well I find that if you drag a file into the folder you unstuffed, the files will all of a sudden appear. Wierd isn't it? It seems like a refresh issue. Not sure whos fault it is but would be nice to have fixed reguardless.

You're right, that's what it seems to be and is the easiest workaround (better than mine) I've seen for the moment. Still annoying though.
