Can you highlight a word first and then hit "Command+Control+D" to bring up the Dictionary?

is Dictionary.app in your Applications folder directly, or did you move it elsewhere, or to a sub-folder? contextual look-up won't work if you did.

I had the same problem, but mine was not in the Applications folder, it was in a subfolder. That was the root of my problem. Why does Apple want everyone to have a HUGE application folder that's not categorized??? Analogika, thanks for the suggestion!

Does it work from the contextual menu?

I too had Dictionary.app in a sub-folder and the keyboard shortcut didn't work. But, using "Look Up In Dictionary" from the Services did work. It's a moot point now since I've moved Dictionary to the App folder because look up using the keyboard shortcut is far more useful.
