I'm not sure what to do to fix this issue. Rebuild the mail box? I have a a friend whose Mac has Panther on it and in Mail when I try to go to the sent folder it gives me the message about the mail not being able to be accessed I need to take the account online. The thing is the Account is online. I know that somtimes quitting mail and bringing it up fixes the problem. also I restarted the Mac. Not sure what else to try. Rebuilding the mailbox? anyone have any suggestions?

Mail.app will do this when mailboxes get somewhere in the neighborhood of 700megs to 1 gig.

Only fix I've found is to download the demo of Mailsmith from www.barebones.com, import the too big .mbox file to it, and export it as a group of smaller mboxes. Dividing them up into timespans (by year, or group of months, depending on the need) works well.

Hopefully this bad behavior is fixed in Tiger mail, but I haven't tested that yet.

Thanks. I'll try that and see if that works. Their email is used for business so I'll have to wait and see if it can be done sometime. If not I'll figure something out.
