I have to send my new iMac G5 back to Apple due to a defective monitor (see iMac thread: iMac G5 and thing red line). Because I don't know for sure that they won't somehow mess up my data and iTunes that reside on the hard drive, I'd like to back them up to any external HD. I'm not worried about transferring my data files; however, I have some concerns about moving the iTunes because I'm not sure that when I get my Mac back I can transfer from the HD back to the Mac. Isn't there some type of protection scheme built into iTunes to prevent it from being moved from one drive to another? Am I just worrying about nothing, or do I stand to lose my music collection? Please advise.

I would think that if you move them to the external hd then when you get the computer back, go to File>Add Folder - then choose the folder on your external hard drive and it will work out fine.
