They recently required us to install PatchLink on all of our computers here at work. From searching the web, I get the idea that this software lets a network admin install patches over the network, but can anyone tell me exactly what this software does?

Will it force my computer to do the OS upgrades?
Will I get any notification during updates/patches, or afterwards to let me know something has been done?

Is this just for the OS, or is it for 3rd party software too? I asked our network admin, but he said he doesn't have anything to do with this, and that the IT people at another physical location about 100 miles away required it. I guess over the network it doesn't matter how physically far away the admin is, but I have my doubts as to whether or not those people will actually have control or not. Can anyone shed some light on my above questions?
