I got VPC for one obscure software (web position gold), and it took hours on the phone with Microsoft to get it to work -- so much configuring. So much work. So I'm wondering will I have be tortured again with Tiger?
So, I go to open it (still Panther), and it says:

"The software necessary to run Virtual PC for Mac is either missing or is installed incorrectly.

Before you can run Virtual PC for Mac you must either run this installer or reinstall Virtual PC for Mac from the original CD."

And I'm still in Panther!

There are a few emulator alternatives such as Qemu, but in my opinion the best option is to make a remote desktop connection to an actual PC. I run VMWare over FreeBSD and make a remote desktop connection running within Windows running within VMWare on FreeBSD. Works great, and a screwed up Windows is not a screwed up machine (just a screwed up VMWare disk image).
