I'm trying to get Safari 2.0 to recognize either the Adobe Acrobat 7 PDF viewer plug-in or the Shubert PDF Browser plug-in, but can't seem to get either to work. Safari wants to download any linked PDF and launch Preview instead of viewing within Safari. Yuck.

Quit & restarted Safari a dozen times. I've tried the Detect and Repair option in Acrobat... still no go.

Anyone else have this problem or know a solution?

Never mind. It seems that its the fault of one particular stupid web page. PDFs linked on other web pages view within Safari just fine.
Weird.

This is really irritating, as ScienceDirect.com seems to suffer from this bug. Which is incredibly irritating to try and utilise the papers there.

Weird.

You can configure a web server (certainly Apache) to "force" PDFs to download. This maybe the case on the server from which the pages/pdfs you encountered the "download" behaviour on. Sometimes this configuration is done for a reason by the person maintaining the server, other times it can be an oversight or even an individual not aware that they can configure the server in this manner.
