I am unable to send any messages. I see my inbox including my incoming messages but it says that it cannot send mail through the same server.

I tested Thunderbird and it sends the messages just fine so it's a Mail app problem. I deleted the account and re-created it but that didn't do anything.

I believe that the server requires password authentication when for sending messages so I go to the outgoing mail server preferences, select "Password" from the pulldown menu, I type the password but then when I come back, it's reset back to None. It's as if that preference is not being saved.

Any ideas? I'm getting desperate.
