I have OS 10.3.9. I've been using Netscape 7.2 for my e-mail. I decided to switch to Apple Mail (1.3.11). I imported the e-mail from Netscape. Problem: the number of messages in some of the folders in Mail is different from the original folders in Netscape. I tried to figure out a pattern in the missing e-mails to no avail. Re-importing doesn't do any good. Restarting both apps and re-importing one more time and then the numbers are different again!?!? This is just weird. I don't know what else to try. Any ideas? My archive is split up in folders of only a couple of hundred messages each.

Tried to import only one e-mail archive folder at a time, made no difference either. The number of messages sometimes is the same as in Netscape, so OK. With some folders, it is less, meaning some messages are dropped. The pattern is not clear. In one case, it was just that the later half chronologically was chopped off and when I copied those in a separate folder and imported that new folder, it worked OK. In most cases, the dropped messages are spread out chronologically thoughout a folder. Sometimes, it's just a few, say, 15 out of 212, other times it's a substantial number. Copying all messages of a folder that has issues into a new folder doesn't normally solve the problem, nor does splitting it up in small subfolders.

Maybe there's some shareware/freeware that can take netscape mail files and convert them into Mail's mbox file format?

There's an app that I need to check out tonight. I've got about 900 meg of emails in Thunderbird and want to migrate fully over to Mac OS Tiger. I love Thunderbird, but I need to cut over 100%. The app is:

Reporting on my successful import of mail from Thunderbird into Mail!!! This app was definitely worth the $25. Here are some observations:

1. You can try the app for free to verify that it will meet you needs. It puts a default From: message in until you register/purchase then it will put the actual text in.
2. Mail takes forever to rebuild after importing messages in. I had over 800 meg of email that I converted.
3. The application isn't for the faint of heart, it takes getting used to where and how to place your converted email, this could be improved upon to make it easier for some folks.
4. A definite BUY BUY BUY application.

Now I'm almost FULLY Mac! All I can say is my new PowerMac has made me a very happy user!

Obviously, the problem lies in the style of formatting of the mbox files by Netscape which is sometimes not recognized properly by Mail. I've found a workaround that seems to be working:

1• I installed the freeware app SweetMail (http://www.download.com/SweetMail/30...ml?tag=lst-0-5) and open it
2• I import one Netscape e-mail folder; I check whether it has the exact same no. of messages in it as in the original one
3• I import "Data from Other" in Mail": "Mailboxes (mbox format)" at /Library/Preferences/SweetMailSpool/Mail Spool/Mailbox/ and select "_Inbox"
4• I open the new subfolder "Import/_Inbox" and make sure it has the same no. of messages as the original one in Netscape did; I copy the messages in a properly named folder or just rename this subfolder and move it out of the "Import" folder
5• I delete the messages in the inbox of SweetMail and empty the trash, then I compact the folders (to purge any trace of the messages)
6• Go back to step 2 and start with the next folder and continue again and again till you've processed all recalcitrant folders, i.e., the ones that Mail couldn't readily import directly from Netscape without making mistakes

I realize this isn't quick and easy but it isn't really difficult either. The speed is not too bad. I guess this could be scripted but I have no experience with that.
