I have a PB 12in rev A.

I will do a clean install of Tiger soon.

I have a .Mac mail account and it is IMAP. If that's the only thing I had I wouldn't need to ask this question:

I have some old archived mailboxes in Mail from when I used a POP email account. I have something like 500 emails there and it's important that I keep them. I heard in another thread that Tiger converts your mail into a different format or something.

So what I'm wondering is...should I just backup my ~Home/Library/Mail folder and then after the clean install just insert it into that Library folder, replacing the existing one? Or will Tiger Mail somehow think its not compatible and my old mail will be gone forever?
