So I've spent the last few days ripping about a dozen CDs/day from CDs to my iBook.

I decided tonight I may as well burn an MP3 cd to play in my car's Mp3 player for the next week of commuting to work. I'm burning the songs onto a CDRW.

I created a playlist, sorted the playlist by album (I read online that this is how you make iTunes burn the Mp3s into folders by album), and hit burn.

The problem......

iTunes burns only 1 track to the CD, and says its done. I have every track in the playlist checked (137 songs), but it wont burn them.

What am i doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Are the other 136 tracks AAC encoded? If so, they need to be converted to MP3s first.

they are all AAC.

I was talking to a friend of mine who has been a long time Mac user, and was told that if I set the export setting to MP3 in the preferences, that's all I would have to do to create an MP3 cd out of my playlist.

Is that correct?

If not, I'm guessing I'm goign to always have to convert from AAC -> MP3 anytime I want to make an MP3 cd for the car... at least until I cave and shell out the 250+ for an iPod?

Nope. That's why I asked.

As it says, unambiguously, in the iTunes and Music Store "Help":

Creating your own MP3 CDs

If your playlist includes songs in formats other than MP3, they will not be burned on the CD.
BTW, you may also want to strip out any embedded album covers you've added to your music after you've converted them to MP3 for playback on an MP3 CD player... some of them try to "play" the album cover data, which comes out as awful noise at the start of each track.

That is correct. You will have to convert all your aac files to mp3 in order to burn them to an mp3 cd.

that sucks. Oh well... live and learn I guess. I have to remove cover art too? That bites, I wanted an iPod photo specifically b/c it would show cover art. Meaningless as it is, it was just one of those little "wow that's cool" things about the iPod.

Thanks for your help eggman and bwahahax.

If you're using an iPod photo there'd be no need to strip the cover art... hell, no!

I'm just saying that any playlists that you want to transfer to MP3 CDs:

1) must be converted to MP3 - and

B) you might also find that you might have to strip the artwork from those MP3s if you run into a problem as I did with a Sony "Psyc" CD player that my wife uses. It's capable of playing MP3 CDs, but has problems with ones that have iTunes-embedded cover art.

Hell, I wouldn't get rid of the cover art from my original AAC rips! Never!
