Is there such a thing?

I had my ibook at work on my desk and was using it as a jukebox. The display had already gone to sleep, and all the ibook was doing was running itunes. About an hour into listening to music the internal fan started spinning up, and has been going for about 15 minutes now. I've only had the machine for about a week, and this is the first time the fan has been spinning this long and this loud. I've owned 2 ibooks before this and have never experienced this situation.

I'm wondering how hot my CPU has gotten... so....

does anyone know of a good app to monitor cpu temp/usage/speed/ram usage, and any other system information? And/or... is there w widget that'll do it?

thanks.

Menu meters for all but temp.

the fan just stopped spinning, about a half hour after it started. The laptop bottom or sides don't even feel warm. I've had the laptop warmer than this before without the fan coming on at all.

Randman >> thanks, I'll check out menu meters when I get home.

anyone know if there's a widget for this? that would be the ideal use for dashboard for me.

Don't know if there's a widget yet. There's a konfabulator widget so it shouldn't be long for a widget to come around.

I prefer to have Menu Meters information in the menu bar than a widget personally, but a nice widget with the same information would be nice to see.

yea, it would be nice in the menu bar.... but I'm on an iBook... 12" screen at 1024 doesn't offer much real estate

I'm already cramped with ichat/wifi meter, volume, battery, time, user account (icon only) and spotlight. I actually use those all regularly, otherwise I would have canned them awhile ago.

Good point, I am spoiled with my TiBook screen so I never think of that issue or perspective.

As previously stated, I'm sure a quality widget will be around the corner with this information...

I stumbled across this today:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...hmonitors.html

doesn't have CPU temp, but its got the rest of the basics:

cpu load
memory usage
network traffic
disk read/write.

Wow. That's huge, that's ugly, it *must* be worth the price.

agreed .. but its a start. If I had any programming prowess I'd take a crack at it... but sadly freshman year Haskell did nothing more than give me a distaste for programming.

The DashMonitors widget info can be displayed as text only, simple bar graphs, or that huge graphical mode which takes up half the monitor of a 12" iBook
