can i play .avi files on quicktime?

hello!

is it possible to play .avi files on quicktime? i am currently using VLC to view .avi files. or is it possible to convert .avi files to .mpg, etc?

You can download and install additional codecs for Quicktime that allow it to play .avi's (search Version Tracker). But in my experience they don't work very well and I usually wind up back on VLC anyway.

5.2.1 should work fine with QT 6.x. You'll need 5.1.1 for Tiger/QT 7 until they can get an update out. Good luck finding it...

Also google for "XVID Component" and "AC3 Quicktime Component" - i play 90% of my avis in Quicktime since i moved to Tiger, dont use VLC much anymore.
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.
