I have an iMac G5 with Tiger and 1 Gb of ram. Windows Media Player does not play any audio. When I open a WMV file, there is an error message saying that a codec is missing. There is no problem in playing QT audio or video. I think, but I'm not certain, that flash files don't play audio either.
I have tried the following:
Repairing permissions from the boot volume
Running Disk Repair in the Disk Utility of the install DVD
Reinstalling WMP
Checking that all of the right file types and extensions are associated with WMP.
Finally, Archive and (re)Install of Tiger, Fix Permissions, re-Prebind, reinstall WMP, Fix Permissions,
Same problem still exists.
I need to use WMP only to play an audio stream of a local radio station that I cannot receive at my desk at work, and I'm very frustrated. It seemed to work for a while in Tiger, but recently stopped (shortly after running the new version of AppleJack, but I'm not certain about the order in which this happened).
What could I do as a next step to troubleshoot this vexing problem? My system is otherwise extremely stable.
