Hey guys.
I am using my Dad's internet connection ( SBC ). I do not have an email account using SBC, just my .mac account.
Is there a way that I can send emails using the Mail.app, instead of always having to log into my .mac webmail?
I can, of course, receive email using Mail, but not send.
I don't want to set up an SBC account.
Thanks!

You can receive .Mac mail, but not send it using Mail.app? You may need to change your port setting for the outgoing mail server. I also have SBC and use port 25.

You need to set the SMTP server to SBC's. You probably don't need to set up the account, but they will block sending via the .Mac SMTP server for "prevention from SPAM" reasons.

Why are you using HTTP mail? Use POP or IMAP.

I already tried setting the account to a POP type account, using the SBC server, the "smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com" server as the outgoing server, and the Port is by default already on 25. This does not work.
So now what?

I use smtp.mac.com using port 25 with SBC with no problems.

I had the same problem and solved it by doing this....
I did a search in apple mail help for send mail .mac and I got this.(see below). The port 587 trick worked for me.
Ken
Try the following:
Ask your ISP if they are blocking access to all but their outgoing mail server, including port 25.
If your ISP is blocking port 25, get the settings you need from them to use their outgoing mail server. Choose Mail > Preferences and click Accounts. Select your account, then click the Server Settings button in the Account Information pane. Enter the information, including the outgoing mail server name. Select each of your accounts and select the ISP's outgoing mail server for each. You can use one outgoing mail server for all your accounts without affecting the email address from which your messages are sent. (Your .Mac account requires that your return address be your .Mac address. If you are having problems, check with your ISP to see if they are allowing other addresses to be used.)
Ask your ISP if you must first connect to the POP/IMAP server and authenticate before you can send email. If so, get the required information from your ISP, choose Mail > Preferences, and click Accounts. Select the account, then click the Server Settings button in the Account Information pane. Enter the authentication information from your ISP in the SMTP Server Options dialog that appears.
To eliminate SMTP servers you're not using, choose Mail > Preferences and click Accounts. Select an account. In the Account Information pane, choose Edit Server List from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) pop-up menu. Select a server. The third column indicates if a server is in use. If it isn't in use, click Remove Server and click Done.
Try deleting the mail account and adding it again. Then try sending again. Deleting the account will erase all mailboxes for this account, but will not affect any messages stored on your mail server. If you delete a .Mac account, Mail sets up your account again with the correct settings. This could fix situations where your settings have been corrupted.
Mac accounts: If your ISP is blocking port 25, you can change the port to 587 and try again. Choose Mail > Preferences, and click Accounts. Select your .Mac account, then click Account Information. Click the Server Settings button, then replace 25 with 587 in the “Server port” field. Click OK and close the Preferences window. Try sending your message again.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?
I want to be able to use the Apple Mail application instead of using the webmail to send mail. My current settings are the standard .mac settings for Mail. Port 25, authentication enabled.

So I sent an email to SBC asking for them to stop blocking port 25 and they replied that the blocking would stop for only the account that I requested, which was my Dad's. So I put in smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com as the outgoing server in Mail, and left all my other .mac settings intact.
Still can't send email from Mail.
This is a real pain in the arse. It should not be this difficult to just send an email from my email application!

By account they mean the physical location, not a specific email address.
When I did this all my hosted email began working again on multiple machines with no changes needed.
You should not need to change any of your SMTPs. In fact, changing them to the smtp.sbcglobal.net almost guarantees they won't go out.
Once they have unblocked port 25 all should work as normal. Your .mac should be set to smtp.mac.com or have Mail.app set up as a .mac account.
The short: once 25 is unblocked, re-set up your accounts as you would if they were new.
