When I use Word 2004 (and this behaviour I noticed since office .X) the CPU usage is very often at 100%. This is obviously not very convenient when you are on a trip and just wanna type a text - coz you would like to use the battery and your balls as long as possible.

Now, yes of course I could use any other program to write, but I need word as it works with Endnote together.

Does any noticed something similar ? Or even better knows a way around it ? Is it maybe not like this in Tiger ?

I am using Word 11.1 and 10.3.9 on a Powerbook 667 - 1 gig ram.

thnx

if you're just typing text, just use Text Edit and say to hell with it.

Search the boards here, there are lots of stuff on Word's CPU usage. I have had the same problems, things can just grind to a halt sometimes...

I have heard some things that could be done to improve the situation. I think it was something like turning off word count or spell checking or so. I don't own Word so I don't know and don't remember exactly. Search the forum for these tips.

Try reinstalling and making sure you have Live Word Count turned off.
I don't have any such problem with Word 2004/EndNote 8 on my PB.

I also opened Fontbook and had it throw away corrupt fonts and delete or turn off duplicates. This helped Word open much faster. Can't say it makes it work any better. I also turn off live word count and wysiwyg in the font menu.

Mostly now I use Pages.
