I'm running 10.4.1 on a new (2days) Powerbook. When I attempted to launch Address Book today, the icon in the Dock and the main Finder window turned instantly generic and the application won't launch. Any idea?

I tried the widget from Dashboard and it works...

I'm having the exact same problem ... any ideas?? I tried reapplying 10.4.1 (which claims it updates Address Book), and also trashing the preferences file. Still generic icon, won't launch, but works in Dashboard. Reboot and repair permissions no good either.

Glad someone else is having the same problem ... will be even happier if someone else knows how to fix it!

Launch Font Book and make sure you have the Helvetica font activated. If you have more than one copy, try deactivating all but the one in the System/Font folder.

I don't know how you came up w/ that solution but it makes sense... copying a bunch of fonts from my old 10.3 system was the last thing I did before Address Book quit.

But your solution didn't work... I think it's the right idea though. Only one copy of Helvetica shows up in Font Book and it is active. Any other suggestions?

Got it working again ... by copying a friend's Address Book.app onto my hard drive. His was 18MB mine was 600K.
