I am completely lost without my CCC. What are you guys doing to make your bootable backups without it? Anything that works as well and efficiently?

I just use Disk Utility's restore function. Works beautifully.

It makes an exact clone. (Unlike CCC, it doesn't do things like omit cache files. Restore does an identical clone.)

When I tried Disk Utility the tmp, var and etc folders were visible in the Macintosh HD.

There's a thread around here about using an app called Pseudo to get CCC to work. Or you can just open up the Terminal and type...

sudo open [drag CCC app in here]

...it will prompt you for your password, then open up CCC.
When CCC is open it should work as normal (won't freeze when you try to unlock it) - I've used it this way about 4 times since instaling Tiger (and am right now on my iBook).

Hope that helps.

I logged on as root and CCC ran fine.
