Using OS X, saw at the box store on a Mac publication a free disk utility that said..can't exactly remember...Windows Explorer for Mac...it was on a free CD. Are there similar free apps?

I have no idea what you saw, but you can find many free apps at macupdate.com and http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/
