I finally got around to installing iLife '05 on my home network this week. (My kids have been bugging me for a while.)

According to the iLife Installer, it does NOT support OS X Server! What?!?!?

I have a house with 3 Macs and 5 family members... one nice Dual-Processor Power Mac for doing serious work ... and two iMacs for lightweight stuff. I setup the network with OS X Server on the Power Mac such that any family member can log into any Mac and have their home directory exactly the same. That has worked great for YEARS now.

But it appears Apple has decided to no longer support use of OS X Server by anybody other than large companies who can afford to buy an extra Xserve box.

Anybody know a work-around to allow me to use iLife'05 with OS X Server?
Is there some other way to support multiple users on a few machines?
Or will I no longer be buying new Apple software (until my kids move out)?

Perhaps you can install iLife on one of the iMacs, then move the iPhoto.app, iMovie.app etc. to the PowerMac?
I think that should work if its just the installer that block Mac OS X Server.

Or people chosing to use Mac OS X Server as a server - there's no need for an Xserve, it will even run on a Mac mini.

A server is a server and not a workstation and even though the two versions seem identical there are settings "under the hood" that are different and I wouldn't recommend using a server install as a regular workstation - the system is optimized for server use.

But you could try moving the apps to the PM as suggested.
