I would like to see an iPhoto Pro Application, and I mean a really strong and powerful application better than photoshop but fully compatible with .PSD files (editable layers and all) it's just that I miss the only Mac apps like yesterday... when you can do something wonderful only on a Mac, and PC people looked at you with envy and say "Damn!"

If Apple make the adjustments and bring to the table iPhoto Pro what would you like it to be in that app and what features? I know I know, We just dreaming here, but what the heck, maybe Apple can make an idea a full reality right? lets make our wish list right now!

I would like stuff like this...
1) CMYK press ready templates (and I mean that you have complete control of them, lets say, you want to make a brochure, you choose a template, call the printing company and select the print size they tell you and thats it!)
2) Impact text FX! (not like the actions or the styles, I mean "drag n liquify it" "touch n alterate" kind of creativity"
3) default spell checking
4) construction Window ( a full working window that you can set in full screen mode and then you can just click on the layer you wanna move and rearrenge everything the way you want it. resize layers, move layers, double clik on a layer and make the changes in smart object option window and save it! )

this last one it will be the BOMB!!! no more layers palette selection, just point and click!!
D-A-M-N-!

iWork is struggling enough without another app to compete with PhotoShop and PhotoShop Elements.

I don't have iWork, but if I recall... I think a demo came with my Tiger copy,thou.. are you telling me that iWork can export templates in high quality CMYK .Tiff files ready for professional reproduction? I don't think so. iWork its great for Office people that need to print something fast on their color laser printer and show it off at the SM or GM meeting... it's not for high workflow publishing files ready to print.

but you know what... U have a strong point about the concept, it is like making an iWork version inside iPhoto Pro with the designing needs in mind.

and.. where is your wish list? don't you wanna any special features for iPhoto Pro version?

You can already do almost all of these things in Photoshop. Go into fullscreen mode with the move tool selected. Hit tab to hide the palettes then use Cmd-click to select and move layers and Cmd-T to resize them.

This is where I stopped reading.

This topic goes right up there with "Apple should switch to Intel" for being simultaneously one of the most ridiculous suggestions ever made as well as one of the most common. Everybody seems to assume that being better than Photoshop is an incredibly simple task that nobody has felt like getting around to.

WHAT???

Read again my man, and understand that I am a Mac User like you, a very proud Mac User BTW, my first and primary tool for design is and always going to be is PhotoShop, but What I'm saying here is very simple:
Back in 1984 Macs and PCs where different in many characteristics, and one of them was the unique software in any specific OS, I remember that if you wanted to manipulate a Photo with PaintBrush you used a PC and if you wanted to make great photo alteration and design you used Mac Paint.. I mean, what about the essence of the unique OS power and versatility?? if you want to be the best in anything you wanna do back in those days, only a Mac was the perfect tool for that. you will never find a Paint Brush for a Mac, Mac never need it to clone whatever the PC programmers did back in the day, the Mac my little friend was UNIQUE. Why? because the hand that create the machine also create the OS and thats PERFECTION in my language, of course Macs were having problems in that date, it was the beginning, the future in the palm of the past. but suddenly Economy Power knock at the door, and it was better to share the magic than the knowledge. I mean thats my opinion, of course... the point is that I miss unique apps for a unique OS, why use a software that can be installed in any machine? it will be better if we can do great things with better apps that came only for Macs. Mac Only Apps, that only runs on our Macs... get it? that will be cool. and turn us again as the one and only , the rebels, the misfits, the real Mac generation back on track, and that will be a lesson for all PC users out there!! Can I hear an AMEN? lol

Believe me, I agree that killer Mac-only software is cool. Apple already has several of those in the form of Final Cut Studio, as well as iMovie (which generally kicks its PC competitors' butts). But Photoshop has so much development behind it that no app is going to beat it at its own game any time soon. At best, you could focus on one particular segment of its market (e.g. Web folks) and try to compete there.

I agree (again) that PS is the BOMB. But believe me, in my experience nothing is indispensable in real life, always something appear from nothing and beat the crap out of you. That's what happened with Freehand (my favorite Illustration App by the way) when Illustrator appear stronger than ever in the second round, when FH rules at that time and its owner was Aldus not Macromedia, I know that in some lab out there somebody is creating a Monster that will eat PS with one Punch! and everybody will change to that new option, where I work I receive lots of complaints about PS and great Ideas for productivity and all, it doesn't matter the years in the making, because what was great 15 years ago, today is obsolete. something ultra new will come, and why not from the master minds at Apple? give it a thought!

iPhoto has basic functions.
PS Elements is reasonably priced for what it does.
PhotoShop offers more.

That's a pretty good hierarchy and it would be difficult for Apple to make inroads there.

Look at Apples market value and cash verses Adobes market value.. It is very possible... Adobe's ceo would probably do everything he could to prevent this... but this would definitely be in Apple's interest.. it would give them a great bargaining tool with microsoft and would also allow great integration with all of adobe's/macromedias creative apps and also give Apple influence by controlling Flash/PDF and being able to integrate that with quicktime distribution..

Do you have a reasoning behind that Ben? I can't think of any other company that Apple could buy that could add more value to the company than Adobe..

By the same reasoning, when I buy Adobe, this thread will be irrelevant. Adobe would be a very good investment for me. (Insert "Microsoft" or any other company or individual where "Apple" was in Producer's post and "I" was in my post, and you'll end up with an equally valid argument.)

Microsoft would never be able to buy Adobe for legal reasons... I really doubt you could afford the 15 Billion plus for Adobe.. but if you can you are welcome to take me out for a nice dinner on the town where we can discuss it over a nice bottle of Crystal and then meet Paris and Nicky for drinks at the Marquee..

Apple buying Adobe would allow Apple to write a competing word processor to Word and not have to worry about the consequences.. if microsoft drops Office for Mac at some point or doesn't write a competitive version.. Apple now has all Adobe/Macromedia apps to threaten them with as well if they liked it would also give them an easier time if they ever needed to go to a different architecture as all Adobe/Macromedia apps would be ported.. All creative apps would work seemlessly together.. and they would support Mac core technologies giving them advantages over the windows counter parts... Adobe/Macromedia windows users would have more incentive to switch to Mac growing the marketshare...there are numerous other reasons... If Apple could not convince Adobe's board they could go for the hostile takeover route... given Apple's approaching 10 Billion of cash and growing market value...

In other words...

You want Apple to copy Photoshop, add a few features (which wouldn't be innovative, as innovation doesn't exactly occur on demand), and only distribute it on the Macintosh?

I think that I'm going to copy Photoshop (with my super decompiler), add a few features, and distribute it on every OS! Even Amiga! Let the money roll in...

You're the guy who would've said, "Hey! Let's make a thingy that lights up!" Thomas Edison is the guy who made it light up. Granted, core ideas are special in and of themselves, but in most cases, it is the implementation that matters (and the implementation is, of course, an idea special in and of itself).

I'm sick and tired of people who just spew forth ideas without any realistic thought, just because it would be "so cool," and who then try to convince others of the importance of said ideas.

Just judging from the tone of what you've written, I can guarantee you that Apple does not need your ideas. Why don't you focus on what you, an uninformed consumer, are good at: Using your Mac.

Tavilach based upon your other posts in the PB forum in the past, I'd think twice before flaming someone or at least casting stones.

Just because the OP has an idea doesn't mean you (or anyone else) needs to jump down his throat. While on paper the idea of a focused image editing application seems plausible and doable, its not going to happen due to the maturity, market share and feature set of photoshop. This forum and this world are quick to condem people's ideas and that's not right.

I knew that was coming, but I don't see how my idiotic posts of the past have anything to do with this.

Regardless, perhaps I was too harsh. I apologize, I WAS the One.

It's because of those reasons no-one even tries.

I don't see a reason why some little company, a group of people or even a large corporation like Apple can't bring to market a photoshop killer.

Just because it hasn't been done, doesn't mean it can't be done.

Considering I (like many users I know) don't use GarageBand, iDVD and iMovie more than once or twice a year... and iTunes is already free... it's harder and harder for me to purchase the newest version of iLife considering the only application I really use on a regular basis is iPhoto (and obviously iTunes). Granted, the latest version of iPhoto is MUCH better... but $80 is $80.

Maybe it's just me.
