I installed Adobe Acrobat to see what it offered beyond Preview, now all pdfs open in the bloatware Acrobat within Safari. I'm wondering how do I get rid of that and make Preview the default action again? I moved the Acrobat folder out of Applications and now all that happens is pdfs in Safari load a blank page. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

You don't actually have to remove acrobat to do what you want....you just need to change the default app for pdf's:
- choose a pdf, don't open it, just hilight it in the finder
- do a "get info" (file - get info, or command + i)
- in the get info box expand the "open with" section
- choose "preview" from the box and click the change all button

Thanks, that worked for opening pdfs from Finder but they still don't work within Safari. Is there an area where I can tell Safari what to do with each file extension?

It's a pref within Reader (used to be called Acrobat, not anymore).
In the preferences, select "Internet" and uncheck "Display PDF in browser"
I've had to do this several times. It doesn't want to stay unchecked. Stupid Adobe. Don't pull that crap on my Mac.

can you just get rid of the AdobePdfViewer.plugin from your /library/internet plugins folder?
