Does anyone know of a good way to check a PDF file to make sure the fonts are embedded?

A good way without the use of Acrobat...

I'm also wondering what subsetting embedded fonts means.

Anyone?

headbirth!

There is a program called PitStop that checks PDF for embedded fonts. It also does a bunch of other things, so you would get a lot of mileage from it.

Have fun... Tony.

Thanks for the tip off ... I'll check it out. Off hand is there anything already included with X or a commandline utility that might do something similar?

It means only putting in font information on the actual characters used in the document... cuts down on size of the final file. If you put the word "HELLO" in it's own font and embedded the fonts, only the H, E, L, and O would be embedded.
