MSN Jabber gateway keeps IMing me

Okay, so I'm using iChat to talk to the occasional MSN contact via Jabber. The thing is, every time I log in to Jabber, the MSN gateway sends me an IM letting me know how many e-mails are in the Hotmail inbox I used to sign up for MSN with. Thing is, I never use that account, having created it only as a spam repository, so this message is simply annoying. Now, before Tiger, when using a third-party client to access Jabber, this was easy enough to ignore, but nowadays in iChat, it becomes much more annoying, since every time I set my online status to Available via the iChat menu, the IM from the MSN gateway causes the iChat app to launch, even if I didn't want it to.

So, is there any way to disable this "helpful feature"? Are there any Jabber servers that don't do this (I've already tried two or three)? Does it not do this if you use something other than Hotmail for the e-mail address? Maybe I could set up a crappy Yahoo account to do this or something.

I am afraid there is no solution.

My problem is deeper:

every few days the MSN transport seems to die and I have to register with a new jabber server. Right now I am with jabber.freenet.de and I cannot connect tonight

Log in to hotmail, go to security or spam-filter or whatever and set it to highest. This will only allow people in your address-book to send you e-mails, if you have no one in your address book you won't get any mails. Problems solved.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work, because even if there are no unread e-mails, the MSN gateway still decides to be "helpful" and send me an IM letting me know that I have a grand total of 0 e-mails. Gee, thanks, MSN...

I actually like this greeting -- it lets me know I am connected to the MSN transport which I am not right now
