My problem--Stuffit Expander (latest version) has no problem expanding .zip and .rar files. But when it comes to .sit files, I've had an issue. When I expand them on the desktop it only reveals a folder that contains no items.

Just for fun, I expanded the same .sit file on my main hard drive folder and all the files were there and accessible. Check out this screen shot of the unstuffing process-- it looks normal.

Now look at this shot. In the finder window at the top, I've expander the SIT file somewhere else besides my desktop, but below you'll see the expanded folder on the desktop reveals "No Items."

Has anyone else had issues unstuffing .sit files to their desktop? The only other tidbit I might add in is that this has happened before on my computer with a different .SIT file downloaded from a different site. I'm running a clean install of Tiger (updated to 10.4.1) on an iMac G5.

Yea, I have that too. I had to unstuff it a couple of times... but nothing happened. I waited like... 1 hr. and it finally did. O_o

What you've just described is a different issue. My files are unstuffing quickly and everything seems normal until it completes, when all that's left is an empty folder (although it's correctly labeled).

Allume knows they have a problem and they are working on it, but for now, try this.

Do a search for Stuffit and trash EVERY instance of it. Then download stuffit Expander from here: http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/ (This is not a full version of Stuffit, only Expander.)

It does work.

There's also a temporary workaround; Just drag another item into the folder and the missing items will suddenly appear.

The folder isn't actually empty, the items are in there, they're just invisible.

Yeah, I know the files must be there. As the screenshot reveals, the .SIT DOES unstuff everything like it should. When I perform a customized search on my desktop for invisible items, however, they still don't show up.

I deleted all previous occurrences of "Stuffit" from my system (except for Stuffit 6.0 for Mac OS Classic). I then downloaded and installed JUST THE EXPANDER, at your suggestion. It unstuffed the file on the desktop correctly, as it did before, but THIS TIME, you could also see and open the files :-)

Thanks for your suggestion, JudieKaren.

Okay, I just deleted the unstuffed files by accident and had to re-expand them. This time the same error occurred. It unstuffs to an "empty" folder on the desktop. Same problem again with the same awkward solution.

Stecchino

Try putting the partition or drive that you have Classic on in the "Privacy" folder of Spotlight. System Preferences>Spotlight , click on the "Privacy" tab and click on the "+" at the bottom to add that partition or drive.

Where I'm going here is to try to 'hide' your other "Stuffit". (I think Stuffit Expander 9.0.1 wants to be an 'only child'.)

That´s apparently a finder issue

Confirmed by Allume:
Issue:

In reality, all the items have been expanded, they are just not being shown in the Finder. You can verify this by using the Terminal.app and looking in the "empty" folder.

This is a Tiger Finder update issue that occurs when you have the Show Item Info option enabled. It appears to only affect .sit expansion. We are currently investigating the problem.

You can easily force the Finder to update the empty folder immediately by dragging a new item into the folder.

You can also (sometimes) avoid this issue by turning off the Show Item Info option.

To disable the "Show Item Info" option:

Open a new Finder window.
Set it to "Icon" view.
Select "Show View Options" from the Finder's "View" menu (cmd + J).
Uncheck the "Show Item Info" checkbox.
