First of all, I hope this is the right forum and I hope someone can help me because this is killing me.

I have a setup in my house with my iBook G4 (933/640 ram/10.4) and a Server 2003 computer. My Server 2003 holds all of my mp3s and streams them to me (or should stream them). My iBook is (almost always) connected through my LinkSys router wirelessly and my Server 2003 computer is physically connected. I would mount the Server 2003 share through the network part of Finder, set my iTunes library to the right path and it would work wonderfully. Randomly (about 2 months ago) it wouldn't connect. So I tried a bunch of different things including repairing the permissions of my iBook drive and it worked from then on. Until it (gasp) stopped working again. Sometimes it would randomly unmount the drive in the middle of whatever I was doing and when I would go back to mount it in the Network, the connect button for the server would be a broken Alias. Sometimes it wouldn't work on bootup and the Network would show absolutely nothing in the Finder. The server seems to want to disappear and reappear at will. I reinstalled the Server 2003 OS totally and it seemed to work for a little until it didn't again. I know nothing is physically wrong with the network because everything pings eachother correctly and I can connect from the Windows computer to my iBook but sometimes not visa versa.

If anyone has ANY idea what's wrong PLEASE tell me. Everytime it goes out I can't access my music and I go nuts.

Have you upgraded your server 2003 box to sp1 yet? you might try that-- there are some smb "improvements" and it might help I suppose.

Frankly, I'd just copy the music onto your ibook and be done with it-- that way you can listen to your music when you're not at home

It seems to be working correctly now. If I have any problems I'll upgrade to SP1.

The reason I have it on my server is because my collection is too big for my iBook's 40 gb hard drive
