When OS X 10.4 was introduced, Virex (which is offered via .Mac) no longer was supported. Anyone know when a patch will be put out for this program?

Save yourself the headache.

1. Open that readme in the Virex folder and delete all of the files listed as installed. You can easily toss the vscanx folder as a whole instead of looking for each individual file.
2. Download clamxav.
3. Best of all, it's free.

If you go to the Virex section of the .Mac web site you would see the answer. They recommend going to an earlier version of Virex which is compatible with Tiger until they fix it.

Virex 7.5.1 is not currently compatible with Mac OS X v10.4. Virex 7.5.1 is compatible with Mac OS X versions 10.1.5 through 10.3.9. Active .Mac subscribers who have upgraded to Mac OS X v10.4 can download and install Virex 7.2.1.
