I am currently running 10.3.9 with the last free version of iPhoto. Does anybody know if this version of iPhoto will handle bitmap images?

What do you mean by "bitmap images"? JPEGs, GIFs, PNGs, TIFFs, and many other formats are all kinds of bitmaps.

Bitmap is generally associated with the window world. And I do believe that .bmp is the proper designation.

use canopener to convert the .bmp files to jpg or something else
