I just tried out iBlog and "published," but cannot find it on the web. I've tried various possibilities such as
http://homepage.mac.com/charlesnelson/iblog
http://homepage.mac.com/charlesnelson/iblog/index.html

but all I get is this error message:
http://homepage.mac.com/1/homepage404ErrorPage.html

It's set to the default .Mac location. Any suggestions?

Set to the default location? Are you sure? It should be the second link you posted if it's the default.

What you'll find you've done is you've set it to copy the whole folder (look in preferences).

Its not very intuitive and took me ages to figure out:

Go and edit the location in the publish menu. When it says copy blog folder, leave that unchecked as then it copies to a sub-folder (of random numbers and so on). Does that make sense?

I went to Preferences and created a new location: http://homepage.mac.com/charlesnelson/iblog/ and left the "copy block folder" unchecked, although I checked "assign folder." It still doesn't work. What am I missing?

Try this
1. Go to iBlog application preferences.
2. Click the publish toolbar icon.
3. Choose ".Mac" in the Popup button and click the "New Location" button.
4. Enter a location name (eg: My iDisk), dot mac username and password.
5. Set the "Copy To Folder" value to "Sites/iblog/" and Un-check the "Copy Blog Folder" option.
6. Check the "Assign Blog" option.
7. Save the publish location settings and close the preferences window.
8. Click the publish button.
