Hi everyone,

I've noticed that on my G5 iMac (Rev B, 1.8Ghz with 2GB ram running 10.4.1) that for some reason Safari has started to take a long time to load websites. On my Pismo sites load almost instantly after typing in the URL, ditto with an HP X4000 workstation I have here as well, so it's not my connection at all. I don't recall the iMac having this lag, and haven't installed any new software lately.

For example, if I type in www.apple.com and hit enter, it'll take like 5-10 seconds, sometimes more, before the site loads. Is there any parameter or preference file I can confirm or delete that may help? Anyone know what causes this?

Thanks in advance,

- Alex

Thanks, but not really what I'm looking for. All the posts I've been able to find on the topic were with respect to Safari specifically. I should've specified that the same thing happens with Camino and Firefox.. appears like the iMac has a lag in resolving the host name.

Anyone else? Still searching...

That's a network problem, then. Your other computers resolve normally?

The usual suspects. Pithhelmet?

Have you deactivated cache? Emptied and deactivated the flavicon cache? Edit down or turn off Autofill > Others?

Randman, thanks for your suggestions... here goes with my responses:

1. What's Pithhelmet and how do I know if I have it?
2. Autofill is de-activated on all 3 instances.

Thanks

Pithhelmet is a third-party application to block unwanted ads and control animated gifs and other stuff. If you don't know what it, you don't have it.

I've noticed safrai in 10.4 is slow too.

I can run my laptop (10.3.9) through the airport card in my G5 and it is faster than safari on G5 (10.4)

what gives. No pithhelmet or any othrer hacks
Downloads run at full speed.
maybe 10.4.2 will help

Try adding .com in the search domain in the network prefs. Worked for me.
