Gmail looping into infinity when accessed via Safari on my machine

I just moved my mail from a hosted service (IMAP) to gmail and all was well until last night when it started looping non-stop when I try to hit the site. It looks like it is having trouble authenticating and is switching between 'mail.google.com' and 'https://www.google [...] accounts' or something.
I tried logging out from another browser (camino... I'm about 2 paragraphs ahead in my typing here - I have no idea what Im writing. MAN Camino on my computer is FAST!!!  -- but I digress...), then trying safari but no worky.

As workaround you could set up Mail to check your Gmail account, though.

Yeah, I have that set up just trying to figure out what is going on with Safari.

By any chance are you using PithHelmet or Saft or any other ad blocking? I'm thinking something is blocking the cookie access. I've seen the same issue, and I think it's more common on the machine that uses Pith than the one that does not.

I think you are right - I have pithHelmet but thought I had disabled it while trying to access the site, maybe I need to do a better job of turning it off (?) or uninstall it to make sure.
