Was curious how many discs Final Cut Studio HD comes on. I hear it takes 40GB of space to install (won't even be able to consider buying it for my DP 1.25GHZ too slow even with 1.79GB RAM and 3 HD's).

Along with the nearly 20lbs of user manuals, there are 9 discs:

Final Cut Studio
Soundtrack Pro
DVD Studio Pro 4
Motion 2
Apple Pro Training Final Cut Studio Tutorials (x2)
Live Type Media 1
Live Type Media 2
Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro

I'm pretty sure those are all DVD-ROMs as well, so yeah its pretty big. And you're required to install on the OS drive. (Other stuff like the Loops and LiveType stuff I think can go on other drives, and of course you wont need to move the tutorials to your HD)

I'm running a Dual 2.5 with 2.5 GB of RAM and one additional 300GB HD. (That way I have space on the OS drive for apps, all the files will go on the 300GB. If them video stuff really piles up, I may need to invest in some external storage.....)

But yeah it works great! Very happy with the Studio, just if I could learn how to use it faster!!

A tip on this one: I bought it from B&H Photo Video instead of the online Apple Store--I think its like $100 less and since B&H has no local branches where I live, they didn't need to charge tax either. So I saved almost 200 bucks.

Well your machine definatly meets the minimum requirements, and it seems that the actual apps are only 4GB. The additional stuff can be put on another drive, but its a whopping 41GB. Although I would definately reccomend getting at least 2GB of RAM. There are some pqi brand 1gb sticks on newegg.com that a whole bunch of people were putting their mac minis. I put a couple in my G5 and they work like a charm! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820141198

Well, best of luck to you

I have 1.79GB of RAM. I was just curious. The only video project I have on the horizon is my sisters wedding. My next PM will be spec'd for preformance. I want to get into HRD photos (32bit) and that is going to be a killer for scratch (200-400MB/photo+).

Thanks for the info. Real eye opener.

FC Pro itself isn't all that big -- it's like a 700 MB install. But the content (loops, livetype effects, projects for DVD studio pro), is one metric assload of data. It is huge.
