Every time I attach a single page pdf file to an outgoing Mail message, as opposed to an icon for the file, an image of the pdf appears on the message. This is frustrating, but also embarassing as often times the file attachment will either not make it through to Windows recipients at all or be in a format that is unreadable.

Does anyone have ways to avoid this? Thanks!

I agree, this is sort of annoying.

My wife even got confused and suspected something went wrong with here attachments because only 1 out of 5 pdf files showed the content. There should be a way to switch that off...

If you do this a lot why not create an auomator workflow to do this? I know there is one featured now on the Apple site for Attach mail. I'm sure if you used it for personal use you could modify it to zip your PDF up first before attaching it and sending.

Are you sending with the option to send windows friendly attachments checked? that can cause attachments to go funky on PC's if you don't have it checked.

I've found that control-clicking and setting to 'view as icon' works, although of course this shouldn't be necessary. Unfortunately we lost the feature to always view such items as icons with Mail 2.0 .

The big problem I've found is the unintuitive 'message size' option in the status bar of a message - if you're mailing a PDF and you want more space and set the size to 'small', it converts the PDF to a JPG, which is completely useless and you wind up with something that looks awful at the other end.
