I'm having a problem with Firefox and was wondering if anyone can help me solve the issue.

Since about 2 weeks ago, I've been messing with my fonts on my eMac (running 10.3). Every time I do something with my fonts, then open Firefox or Thunderbird, things look different. And what I mean is the bookmark toolbar at the top of Firefox or anything in Thunderbird is displayed in a different font and it looks so horrible that I can't barely read it. Well, it makes it difficult to read and in Thunderbird it's annoying because I can't tell what messages are bolded.

The only way I've found to solve the problem is to reboot the machine, but it's becoming annoying to have to reboot every time I mess with fonts, which is about every day. And no, I don't use Font Agent or anything like that. I'm just using Font Book (to view the font, then install if I like it). I have less than 200 fonts currently installed, with about 1400 more in another folder.

Is there anything I can do to get Firefox and Thunderbird to quit messing up when I play with my fonts?

Could you give a specific example of a font and what you did with it that made Firefox or Thunderbird look weird?

Below I linked some photos of what it looks like after I play with my fonts and it doesn't matter which font specifically. If I start using 3rd party tools to browse my fonts then jump to FontBook to install a new font, this is what happens when I load FF or TB. And logging out then logging back in doesn't fix it. I have to reboot.

I don't see anything wrong with either picturre. It looks like basic sans-serif fonts have been used for everything.

Note that just about all software will make use of the fonts you have installed. Most programs don't include their own fonts, so they use what's available on the computer.

What do you mean by "play with my fonts?" Do you install new ones with the names of existing fonts, do you delete existing fonts, or something else?

If my internet comes back up tonight I will post a photo of what it is supposed to look like so you can see the difference. (Since when I reboot the computer, my fonts look normal again.)

Yes, I was using Font Viewer to browse fonts located in a folder (not installed). I then loaded Font Book to install a font or two so I could use them in Photoshop. I may have disabled a font also from Font Book.
