I downloaded video of a rugby match played between the US and Wales a few weeks ago. Its a 512x384 resolution XviD format .AVI. I want to convert this and burn it to a DVD so I can watch it in my DVD player. I know the best solution is to either watch it on my computer or to hook my computer directly up to my TV, but I want to be able to watch it with a bunch of people, and neither is really an option since my computer is in an office and it would be a huge hassle to move it to where there is a TV.

I downloaded FFmpegX and opened the AVI and chose to convert to DVD. The video worked fine, but there was no audio in the resulting MPEG. Also, I checked off "Author DVD to Video_TS" in one of the FFmpegX windows, and it did not do this.

Whenever I open FFmpegX, it brings up a message that there are components missing that need to be installed. These are mpeg2enc, mencoder, and mplayer, but whenever I download the binaries and try to install them, it brings up an error message that says "#cp: /Library/Application Support/ffmpegx/mpeg2enc: No such file or directory" (or whatever the binary I am trying to install is at the end). I am getting the feeling this may be the problem, but I have no idea how to fix it.

I am starting to get frustrated because I just made the switch from PC to Mac, and it seems like there were so many things that were so easy on a PC that are a huge hassle on a Mac. Any help (including suggestions for different software that works better) would be greatly apprecieated.

I often find that the audio track is placed on a random track on FFmpegX muxes - I don't know why - try playing with the different audio channels/languages and I'm pretty sure you'll find it eventually!

Hmm, sounds like a plan. Thanks, hopefully this works

I still can't get it to give me audio. The MPEG video is fine, it just has no audio.

I'm now attempting to do it using iMovie / iDVD. The .AVI seems to be having no problems (aside from taking forever) importing to iMovie so hopefully it works.

Hey murph,

The developer of ffmpegX answers questions over at the ffmpegX forums (see link below). His online name is Major. He usually responds within 12 hours.
