This is weird. In Mail on my Macs at home and work, there's a little spinning indicator next to the In or Sent boxes that appears when the Mac is receiving or sending Mail. On my brother's Mac, which like mine is running 10.4.1, those indicators aren't there, meaning the only way to see if the Mac is doing anything is to open the Activity window. Any idea how that has disappeared on his but not mine? It's driving him nuts. Any help appreciated!

the only time the progress indicator appears for me is when i'm retrieving new messages. when sending mail, very briefly a new message will register in the drafts box and then disappear. there is no spinning indicator at all for sending mail. the built-in progress indicators of Mail.app in 10.3 were so perfect. they just couldn't leave well enough alone.

Agreed, the loss of the 'status bar' as we knew it is much mourned .

You need to drag your window over more.
You can customize the size of the side bar.

I tried that. I just checked mine again and when sending the little spinning wheel appears next to Sent in the left column, on his, nothing appears. I'm not talking about the status bar.

It's not going to be in the toolbar anymore.
That was bad GUI design in the first place.

I'll clarify again, this screengrab is from my Mac running the exact same Tiger setup as my brothers - I get the spinning wheel when sending or receiving, he doesn't.
