ichat cpu intensive.. whats going on?

this has been going on for a couple weeks now..

after a while, ichat starts to become really cpu intensive (like hogging 70% of my cpu). it happens when im chatting with someone.. i start to notice that my powerbook is getting much hotter than usual and the activity monitor bar fills up to the top. it happens when im chatting with just one IM window as well. anyone experience this and/or know how to solve this problem?

im using the newest version of the powerbook, 1.67, 17"
also on panther 10.3.9
