I have a box of files after files in a 40 gig block, I want to back it up to dvds but I cant break it apart in 4.4 gig blocks as in moving stuff around, I would though like a program that can just burn it all in segments or something, is there a tool around that does that ??

Yes it is. The backup application you get with .Mac can back up to DVDs.

What if one doesn't have (nor wants) a .Mac subscription?

I backup my iBook to my home server, but I would like to also backup to DVDs for more permanent storage. Is there a free or reasonably priced app that makes short work of this?

Get the free .Mac trial, keep Backup. It's pretty good for multiple discs or even backing up to an external hard drive.

I'm not sure but I think Deja Vu is able to do similar, so if you've got Toast then you can back-up pretty easily.

Oh and with the free trial you can only back up to iDisk so not really of use!

I highly recommend Impression for this purpose. Check MacUpdate.

Didn't know you could do that... I might try that option. Thanks.

Unless something has changed, Backup does not run until it verifies your .Mac membership. And that is truly a pity, since I believe it's something that should be bundled with every Mac.

I figured that was the case, but haven't tried .Mac so I don't know any better.
