Backup if you have .Mac. It lets you burn multiple CDs.

You can create a disk image of your iPhoto library. Let's say you create an image called iPhotoBackup.dmg and put it on your desktop. Then segment the image into 4GB pieces so that each will fit onto a DVD...use the terminal:
hdiutil segment -segmentSize 4g -o ~/Desktop/iPhotoSegment ~/Desktop/iPhotoBackup.dmg
This will create multiple disk images on your desktop titled iPhotoSegment.dmg, iPhotoSegment.002.dmgpart, iPhotoSegment.003.dmgpart, etc.
You'll notice that double clicking on iPhotoSegment.dmg automatically joins them all into one. So if you back up each segment onto a DVD, you'll always be able to join them in the future by copying them back to your hard drive and double clicking on the first segment.

That's so complicated compared to Backup. Choose file(s). Select discs then hit OK when it says do you want to burn multiple discs.

You don't have to back up to the iDisk. Backup.app lets you burn discs or save to externals as well.

But only if you have the full version - trial version backup is limited to iDisk.

I'd feel safer using tar and -M (disk spanning option). At least if some data gets corrupted u can get partial files out. Not sure if hdiutil does.
tar -cvpMf tarfilename locationtobackup
IIRC the Tiger version of tar does support resource forks.
