I need some help. I have a presentation on Wednesday that I would like to scan some images into. I have an epson 1660 scanner and have downloaded the Twain driver and the "epson utility" - which by the way, pins my cpu at 100 all the time. It did this in panther and now in Tiger. So I thought perhaps I could use the image capture utility in Mac OS X instead. IC recognizes the scanner and does the preliminary scan but then the scan button is grayed out. What gives? Can someone help me out so I can dump the proprietary epson utility for good? BTW a quick check at the terminal shows the "TWAINBridg" running ( I assume this is the driver?)

Weird no response. You guys are usually pretty good. Well I played with the IC program and the scanner and came up with this - IC scans what it calls an overview scan of the document. Note that the scan button is still grayed out. It is ONLY until you choose a certain portion of the scanned document in the "overview" and the rest of the document is grayed out that the Scan button becomes active. Unfortunately, it seems to me a two step process because after the area of the scan is selected the scanner has to rescan. but oh well at least it doesn't pin my cpu. Hope this helps for anyone doing a forum search in the future.
