Does anyone use SKYPE? How is it? Does it work well? why should someone use this over the other chat clients?

Works very well. I don't like the chat client, too big and clunky (I use a minimal theme in Adium), but works very well for phone calls. That's how I keep in touch with my friends all over the world.

Cool thanks. I'll have to give it a look. Are the rates pretty resonable?

The rates are much, much cheaper than anything on a regular phone. To the US, it costs me 2 (Euro) cents a minute, cellulars and landline alike. Mexico is also dirt cheap (important for me). I haven't seen anything comparably cheap in Germany.

I think Skype is wonderful. I use it all the time when I am travelling. Given that I always have a fast internet access in hotels/airports, it means I can keep in touch with home/office/family, almost for free. Excellent.

I mostly use the computer-to-computer audio chat feature, and I find the audio quality to be far superior to what iChat provides. Besides, it's platform independent. I really suggest you give it a try.

I have been using Skype for a couple fo months now. I dont use it for chat but instead use it for voice calls and its wonderful. I have family and friends all over the world and have already saved $60-$100 a month on overseas calls. Skype-to-Skype calls are free, but their rates for calling regular phone numbers are also very reasonable. The sound quality is also very good, much better than cell phones or landlines.
