i was curious, is there a difference between "quicked for mac new user edition" that came bundled with my powerbook and the regular "quicken for mac" you buy at a store? thanks.

Google is your friend :-)

It appears the "New User Edition" cannot import data files from previous versions -- so you need to start with a new (blank) data file. If you have used Quicken previously, I guess you'll have to buy it.
