hi all. i know very little about isync, but in reading the "about isync" included in the help it seems to be incredibly limited in what you can sync (only mentions contacts and calendar information).
is it possible to sync the music (files, song ratings and playlists) on my imac to my powerbook? i keep everything on my imac, so it is far easier to set this whole thing up so i can just tell my powerbook to sync with it instead of manually organizing all this stuff. is this possible with isync or something else? thanks!

You can copy the iTunes music folder over from one Mac and replace it with another. If you have .Mac, you can use Backup to make a copy of your playlists, then import it into the other Mac.

copying the folder would be a pain, since it's about 40gb. i have a maxtor onetouch2, i wonder if retrospect express will let me backup the music on maxtor and then manage the "syncing" with the powerbook. looks like i have more homework, although i must say i am surprised this isn't already accounted for within some apple product/software.
can i have my ipod push updates to my poweerbook maybe?

You could do an Auto sync with one Mac, then set the iPod for manual syncs. As long as your user info is the same, you should be able to manage the iPod off of both Macs.

That's really not what iSync is for. I guess Apple really never specified exactly what it is for, but my off-the-cuff definition would be "anything you'd want kept up-to-date on a PDA or cellphone." That doesn't include your music library, even if you have a fancy PDA or cellphone.

yea, i can see it isn't what they meant isync to do, but i am surprised there isn't a more packaged way to do this.
this falls into the catagory of glaring holes in the product line for apple, imo. they are the best at leading the market with great ideas like putting music/video/etc on a computer, getting that on a mp3 device, etc. but then totally drop the ball on streaming everything off your computer around your house or syncing similar data between multiple macs.
i hope they eventually get around to these things.

You can share a music library between two Macs. Bonjour will handle that. Just thought of that.

i assume you mean while they are on the same network right (i.e. library sharing)? i am interested in my laptop always having my music as well, so that i can listen to it at work for example.
